Animal Rights Update:

In 2009, HSUS tried hard to pass many animal bills in many states and on the federal level. One of them was Nevada state  SB 133, "prohibiting a person from possessing an animal with the intent to use the animal in a fight". Hoping the Senate bill would pass, HSUS tried to attach 2 amendments to the SB 133, puppy mill amendment and ban on non human primates. The Senate version with amendments didn't pass, instead, just the Assembly version AB 199 passed and this one did NOT have the sneaky HSUS amendments.

When you read the HSUS SB 133 amendment file, see how HSUS switches between the words 'primate' and 'dangerous exotic animals'. It is interesting to note that HSUS Nevada director Beverlee McGrath is a resident of California.

Also pay attention how HSUS tries to limit number of breeding dogs a person can keep. What is next, limiting how many snakes/reptiles/birds/rodents or livestock a breeder/farmer can keep and breed?

NV regular legislative session happens every 2 years, so in 2011, Nevada will likely be under heavy HSUS attack, especially considering they no longer have to spend all their energy on Ohio.
